How to Refer to a Psychologist at aMAZEin' Minds Psychology
If you’re looking to refer to a psychologist, our Mount Waverley clinic offers a simple, collaborative referral process. We welcome referrals from GPs, paediatricians, school wellbeing teams, NDIS providers, allied health professionals, and other professionals. Whether your client needs therapy, a developmental or psychoeducational assessment, or neurodevelopmental support, our experienced Educational and Developmental Psychologists work with children, teens, and adults.

🧾 Medicare Referrals (Better Access)
We accept Medicare referrals under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. GPs can provide:
Referral letter including client details and reason for referral
Eligible clients can access rebates for up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year.

💳 Medicare Referral Item Numbers We Accept
At aMAZEin’ Minds Psychology, we accept a range of Medicare-rebatable psychology referrals under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. These include referrals for counselling, assessment, and support for neurodevelopmental and eating disorders.
Referrers (GPs, psychiatrists, or paediatricians) can use the item numbers below depending on the client’s needs and eligibility.
1. Mental Health Care Plans (MHCP)
Eligible clients can access up to 10 individual therapy sessions per calendar year.

2. Eating Disorder Treatment Services
Available for eligible clients diagnosed with or at risk of an eating disorder.
Includes both standard and extended sessions.

3. Medicare Autism and ADHD Assessments
For clients under 25 years of age referred by a paediatrician or psychiatrist (not a GP).
Used for comprehensive assessments of:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- ADHD
- Other neurodevelopmental conditions

4. Treatment for Children Under 15 with Autism or PDD
These item numbers allow for therapeutic sessions with children diagnosed with:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD)
- Or other eligible disabilities

5. Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plans
CDM plans can be used to access psychological services under allied health for people with a chronic medical condition. This may include clients with long-term mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD, especially when linked to other chronic conditions.
- Item 10968 allows for up to 5 allied health sessions per calendar year (shared across all allied health disciplines).
- Referral must come from a GP using a CDM plan (also known as a GPMP or TCA).
CDM plans are separate from Mental Health Care Plans, but some clients may be eligible for both. Visit our Chronic Disease Management (CDM) page for further clarification.
🧒 Referring Children and Adolescents for Psychology Services
We offer child and adolescent therapy, as well as a wide range of assessments:
- Cognitive and educational assessments
- Autism, ADHD, and AuDHD assessments
- Emotional and behavioural support
Our team includes Educational & Developmental Psychologists with experience working in schools and with neurodivergent clients.
Referrals can come from:
- School wellbeing staff or teachers
- GPs or paediatricians
- Allied health professionals (e.g., speech therapist, occupational therapist)
- NDIS case coordinators

👤 Referring Adults for Psychology Services
We welcome referrals for adults seeking therapy or psychological assessment. Common adult referrals include:
- Anxiety and stress
- Burnout, grief, or life transitions
- Autism, ADHD and AuDHD assessments
- Identity exploration and late-diagnosis support
- Relationship or communication difficulties
Adults may be referred under a Mental Health Care Plan, NDIS (if applicable), or privately. We work with both neurodivergent and neurotypical adults and offer flexible session formats, including telehealth.

♿ Refer to a Psychologist via NDIS
We support self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. Common referrals include:
- Therapy for emotional regulation, anxiety, and social skills
- Functional capacity assessments
- Support for school transitions or identity exploration
Please include the participant’s NDIS number and plan manager contact (if relevant) in the referral.
