Social Skills Group for Children - Lego Therapy
Our social skills group for children is a neuro-affirming, psychologist-led Lego Therapy program designed to support children who experience social-communication differences, including autistic children, ADHDers, and children who find friendships, group play, or social situations challenging.
This program uses structured, collaborative Lego building to support communication, cooperation, emotional regulation, and confidence in peer interactions, without pressure to mask or change who children are.

Who is this Social Skills Group for?
This Lego Therapy social skills group is suitable for children who may:
- Want friendships but find them difficult to initiate or maintain
- Struggle with turn-taking, flexibility, or shared play
- Find it hard to read social cues or respond in group settings
- Experience anxiety, overwhelm, or frustration during social interaction
- Prefer predictable structure and clear expectations
Children may be autistic, have ADHD, experience social anxiety, or have social-communication differences for other reasons. A formal diagnosis is not required.
What is Lego Therapy?
Lego Therapy is a structured, evidence-informed group approach that uses collaborative Lego building to support social communication and interaction.
In Lego Therapy sessions, children work together toward a shared goal. Each child takes on a defined role within the group, and these roles are intentionally designed to support:
- Turn-taking and cooperation.
- Clear, functional communication.
- Perspective-taking and listening.
- Flexibility and shared problem-solving.
- Managing frustration and repairing misunderstandings.
Since the focus is on a shared task rather than direct social performance, interaction feels more natural and less pressured for many children.
Why Lego Therapy works for social skills development
Lego Therapy provides a balance of structure and creativity, which can be particularly supportive for neurodivergent children.
The clear roles and shared goals help children:
- Know what is expected of them.
- Practise communication in a meaningful context.
- Experience success in peer collaboration.
- Build confidence through repeated, supported interaction.
Skills developed in Lego Therapy groups are designed to generalise beyond the sessions into everyday social situations at school, home, and in the community.

What does the group focus on?
Through structured Lego Therapy activities, children are supported to develop:
- Social communication and conversational skills.
- Collaboration and teamwork.
- Perspective-taking and understanding others’ viewpoints.
- Emotional awareness and regulation during interaction.
- Flexibility, problem-solving, and coping with mistakes.
Learning occurs through guided practice, therapist support, and real-time peer interaction.
Our neuro-affirming approach
We take a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach to social skills development. This means:
- Differences in communication and interaction are respected.
- The focus is on understanding and collaboration, not compliance.
- Children are not taught to mask or suppress their natural styles.
- Individual strengths, interests, and preferences are valued.
The aim is to support children to feel more confident, capable, and connected, while remaining authentically themselves.
Group structure and format
- Small group size to support safety and participation (strictly 3 to 5 children).
- Age-appropriate groupings.
- Weekly sessions facilitated by a registered psychologist.
- Structured activities with flexibility for individual needs.
- Optional parent guidance and follow-up resources.
Specific group details (ages, dates, fees, and session length) are listed when intakes are open. Contact us if you would like more information.
Who runs the group?
Our social skills groups are facilitated by psychologists (provisional psychologists, educational & developmental psychologists) with experience supporting autistic and neurodivergent children. Sessions are strictly informed by evidence-based practice and grounded in a respectful, child-centred therapeutic approach.
