Educational and Developmental Assessments

At aMAZEIn’ Minds Psychology, our educational and developmental psychologists offer comprehensive psychological assessments tailored to children, adolescents, and adults. Assessments help us understand thinking, learning, behaviour, emotions, and development—and provide clarity when concerns arise at school, at work, in relationships, or in everyday life.

We work with individuals aged 3 through adulthood and tailor every assessment to suit the referral question. Referrals are welcomed from parents, schools, GPs, paediatricians, allied health professionals, and individuals seeking answers for themselves.

Our Educational and Developmental Assessments

Cognitive Assessments (e.g. IQ testing)

We use standardised tools such as the WISC-V, WAIS-IV, and WPPSI-IV to assess intellectual functioning. These assessments help identify cognitive strengths and areas of challenge and are often used to support applications for educational adjustments, workplace accommodations, or to explore giftedness.

Educational Assessments

We assess academic achievement across reading, spelling, writing, and maths using tools like the WIAT-III. These assessments help identify learning disorders such as dyslexia (specific learning disorder in reading), dysgraphia (writing), or dyscalculia (maths).

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessments

Our autism assessments follow best-practice guidelines and may include tools such as the ADOS-2, adaptive behaviour questionnaires, developmental interviews, and collaboration with schools or other professionals. These assessments are used to clarify or support a diagnosis of ASD across the lifespan.

ADHD and Attention Assessments

We assess attention, executive functioning, and behavioural regulation using clinical interviews, behaviour rating scales (e.g. Conners), and cognitive tasks. These assessments support diagnosis of ADHD in both children and adults and help guide tailored strategies.

Emotional, Social and Behavioural Assessments

We assess for concerns such as anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, or social difficulties. Assessments may include behaviour checklists, self-report questionnaires, and structured clinical interviews.

Career Assessments for Developmental Planning

We support adolescents and adults in exploring educational and career pathways that align with their strengths, interests, and values. These assessments may involve cognitive profiling, interest inventories, and discussion of executive functioning. They are especially helpful during school-to-work transitions, career changes, or when someone is feeling uncertain about their future direction.

The assessment process typically includes:

  • An initial consultation to gather background information
  • One or more testing sessions
  • Optional contact with schools or other providers (with consent)

We aim to ensure the process is respectful, strengths-focused, and tailored to each client’s needs.
