Autism Assessments for Children & Teens – Pricing & Process

Why Have an Autism Assessment?

Autism assessments help clarify a child or teen’s cognitive, social, and emotional functioning, particularly in relation to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They provide insight into strengths and areas for support, guiding tailored strategies for school, home, and daily life.

Important Note
The structure and pricing outlined on this page represent a typical assessment pathway. Every client’s needs are unique, and in some cases sessions may differ, or there may be overlap between assessment types to best answer your specific referral questions. Please contact us to discuss your circumstances and receive a personalised quote before booking.

Our Autism Assessment Process for Children and Teens

We break the assessment into clear steps so you know exactly what to expect:

Step 1: Intake Session (50 minutes)

  • Parent-only session, usually via telehealth.
  • We collect developmental history, current concerns, and family background.
  • A chance for you to ask questions and set goals.

Step 2: Testing Sessions (3 sessions total)

  • Conducted in person at our Mount Waverley clinic.
  • Includes:
    • 2x Cognitive testing to look at problem-solving, memory, vocabulary, processing speed, and attention.
    • Structured observations such as the ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule), considered the gold standard for assessing social communication and play.
  • Children usually attend two 50-minute sessions and one longer 75-minute session.

Step 3: Feedback Session (50 minutes)

  • About four weeks after testing.
  • We explain the results in plain language, answer your questions, and provide recommendations for home, school, and supports.
  • Telehealth or in-person options available.

Note: Some children may need more or fewer sessions depending on their needs.
